Andrew McLauchlan

Regulation & Compliance

Andrew is a risk management and regulatory consultant who has advised on compliance issues within the legal services sector for more than 20 years. He has worked in quality management and risk roles in private practice and also spent a number of years in an advisory role with the Law Society and then with the Solicitors Regulation Authority. During his time with the regulator Andrew conducted over 200 visits to law firms providing practical onsite compliance advice and also led teams of advisers on complex monitoring visits to large firms. He also managed the completion of improvement plans put in place to improve standards of regulatory compliance following the visits.

He has also provided consultancy support and assistance to sole practitioners and small to medium sized law firms. This assistance has included:

- advising on compliance and regulatory issues, professional ethics and the SRA Handbook 2011.

- advising on new firm starts, incorporations and licensed body applications.

- advising on anti-money laundering and anti-mortgage fraud and cybercrime matters.

- conducting comprehensive risk and compliance assessments.

- COLP and COFA monitoring and support activities

- compliance training

Abbas has over twenty years in the finance, audit and fraud risk arena. He has worked with some of the world's largest businesses within the investment banking, retail banking, manufacturing and service industries.   Abbas was responsible for undertaking a fraud risk review on behalf of the Department of Trade and Industry on the coal health claims, the largest litigation scheme in the world. 


Abbas has been responsible for devising and delivering fraud awareness training to internal employees.


Abbas is a qualified accountant and Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist.
